RACHEL CITRINO

HEART-H

Literary styles change as the culture and the language change. The beat of the words are different…the rhythmic effects….the grammatical rules broken become absolutely correct over time.

More than ten years ago…the girls were still young enough to sit on the beach with us for a week at a time….I began collecting novels about women who lived during times unfamiliar to me in places I had never been written in a tone and style I should never speak. It was a sort of time travel.

I had stacks of them and I read most of them on the beach and then when we stopped going to the beach for vacations with the family during a week long flu or virus that kept me in bed….with books. Collecting books with titles consisting of feminine names and derivatives later became the prime directive.

I knew that some day I would do something with them. That something did not appear (as those slippery somethings sometimes do) until just three years ago.

While reading by the hearth, yes I was, it began to take shape. The Hearth Woman stories, etc. Hearth Woman recounting stories of her existence and her eternity.

Hearth and Home. Home is Where the Heart Is….

A lovely picture but you will never see the iniquity and misunderstanding and prejudice and patronizing and persecution between the lines and on the pages inside the covers under the titles. You do not want to see them. You might think we have made no progress at all as human beings and that the fecund days of the Goddess are far away. I cannot let you think that if you do not know it already!
